Etsy Fees Explained (2026 Guide): How Much Does Selling Actually Cost?

Selling on Etsy is one of the most popular ways to start an e-commerce business, especially for Print-on-Demand sellers. But as soon as you make your first sale, reality hits: where did all my money go?

Etsy's fee structure is layered and often confusing for beginners. Let's break down exactly what you'll pay in 2026 so you can price your products properly and stop losing money.

1. The Listing Fee ($0.20)

Every time you publish a new product on Etsy, you pay $0.20 USD. This fee gives your listing a lifespan of 4 months. If the item doesn't sell within 4 months, you'll need to pay another $0.20 to renew it.

Crucially: When an item sells and you have multiple quantities in stock (like almost all PoD sellers do), Etsy automatically charges another $0.20 to "auto-renew" the listing for the next buyer.

2. The Transaction Fee (6.5%)

When a customer buys your item, Etsy takes a 6.5% cut of the total order amount.

This is where many sellers get tripped up. The 6.5% doesn't just apply to your item price—it applies to the shipping cost and any gift wrapping you charge for as well.

Rule of thumb: If the customer pays it, Etsy takes 6.5% of it.

3. Etsy Payments Processing Fee (Varies by Country)

Since Etsy processes the credit card or PayPal transaction for you, they take a payment processing fee. This fee varies significantly depending on where your bank account is located.

  • United States: 3% + $0.25 USD flat fee
  • United Kingdom: 4% + £0.20 GBP flat fee
  • European Union: 4% + €0.30 EUR flat fee

4. The Hidden Killer: Offsite Ads (15%)

Etsy automatically enrolls all sellers into their Offsite Ads program. They advertise your products on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

If a buyer clicks one of these ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy takes a massive 15% fee on that order (in addition to all the other fees).

  • If you make less than $10,000/year, you can opt-out of this program in your settings.
  • If you make over $10,000/year, the fee drops to 12%, but you can never opt out.

How to Price Your Products Properly

Understanding these fees means you can't just blindly price a t-shirt at $20 and hope for the best. You need to reverse-engineer your desired profit margin.

If you want an exact 30% profit margin, you must calculate: Production Cost + Shipping Cost + ALL ETSY FEES + 30% PROFIT = Your Sale Price

To make this easy, we built a free Product Pricing Generator. Just enter your base costs and your goal margin, and the calculator mathematically determines the exact price you need to set on Etsy to hit that target.
